School is in Session
As the school year is here, parents are gathering supplies for their children, teachers are working on their curriculum, and students are excited to see their friends they missed over the summer. A new school year is exciting for most children because the children have a new room, teacher, lunch box, supplies, and classmates. New can be exciting but for some, a new school year is scary and terrifying.
Do you remember those new school days? Do you remember waking up early in the morning to get in the car line or to ride the bus with your friends? Were you scared or excited? Sometimes in life we have to face those new days no matter our fears.
Someone in the Bible approached a new day that was scary at first but then it became exciting and refreshing. This someone was Stephen. Stephen loved Jesus so much he told everyone about his love and grace, others did not agree with Stephen and thought he should be stoned for his words. This was a scary time for Stephen but then he saw something new that was exciting and refreshing.
“When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him.” Acts 7:54-58
If you face something new today that seems terrifying, I hope you remember that God is in the throne room waiting for those who believe in Him. Stephen was a faithful follower of the Lord who was facing troubled times but he did not let new troubles defeat his faith in his everlasting Father.
