Vacation Bible School was almost a week and a half ago and I have not had the opportunity to thank all of the people who helped. I wish I had enough room to write down everyone’s name but if you helped with VBS in any way thank you for your hard work behind the scenes and with the kids. We had people setting up the stage, decorating and praying beforehand and VBS would not have been a success without you.
I have always loved Vacation Bible School and even as a kid I would wake up early and try to be the first one in line. My mom often reminds me that she would wash my VBS shirt every day during VBS so that I could wear it. VBS isn’t just about the fun songs or spending time with your friends but it is about the Biblical certainties that are shown to the children. VBS instills Biblical truths to children through music, crafts, recreation, missions, snack, and of course Bible study. This year our theme Bible verse was 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has given us everything re-quired for life and Godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.” This is a long verse for children to memorize but that didn’t stop our kids. They worked hard and memorized this verse. I still have parents sending me videos, text messages, and e-mails telling me that their kids are continuing to quote this verse. How amazing is that!
Joshua 1:8 tells us, “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosper-ous, and then you will have success.” The Bible teaches us to hold God’s Word tightly in our hearts and to meditate on it day and night. Vacation Bible School, while fun, allows children to see the importance of God’s Word. I remember the verses and songs from years ago, as I am sure you do, and I will pray that these children who come to VBS at North Shelby Baptist Church will remember God’s love through memorizing scripture. As we prepare for next year’s Vacation Bible School please pray that the children will come so they can keep God’s Word in their hearts to help guide through temptations and trails.
With much love and appreciation,
