Over the past few days our church members have been coming to take pictures for our new pictorial directory. Our church is growing and this is a great way to see who is in the church family. Having a pictorial directory helps people in so many ways it allows people to see someone’s face and connect it to a name or after years have passed see how the children have grown.
Taking a picture also creates memories. I am sure you have pictures in your home from weddings, graduations, family vacations, and friends that you have not seen in a while. All of these pictures bring a smile to your face be-cause you remember the good times that are connected to those pictures. This pictorial directory will do the same thing. When you look through your directory I hope you smile at the faces you see whether it be a Sunday school teacher, a friend, a child, or someone who sat next to you in church. I hope you look through your church directory and you see your church family united as the body of Christ.
I Corinthians 1:10 reads, “I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly unit-ed in mind and thought.” We are all united through our faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
Romans 16:1-3 reads, “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me. Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus.
After Paul tells the Roman church to accept Phoebe he also tells them to greet all of the people listed in Romans 16. This brings us to this question, how are we connect-ed? If you look at the text Paul says to greet these people in the Lord. These people are connected by their faith in Jesus Christ. These people believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. They all believe in Matthew 27:32-54 where Jesus carried his cross to Golgotha to be crucified. The soldiers divided his garments after casting lots then they stood there and watched as his flesh suffered. Then they put a sign over his head that read, “This is Jesus king of the Jews.”
We are all connected by believing in Jesus death on the cross and trusting in Him and we are magnetically brought together by God’s grace. As members of the body of Christ we have been placed in the Gospel by grace which enables us to fellowship with one another for the purpose of giving glory to God through the Holy Spirit. When you look at our church directory I hope you see, not a list of names and faces, but a body of believers who have one goal and that is to serve and love the Lord.
