The last opportunity I had to write an article for our newsletter I discussed the WHY of our worship here at North Shelby Baptist Church. We talked about how people who worship the Lord are changed through worship. They ask for forgiveness and are changed. They recognize the awesome wonder of God’s power, His grace, His love, study His Word and are changed into obedient followers of Him. Indeed, when God’s people sing about God’s wonder, His faithfulness, His mighty acts, listen to His Word, unbelievers listen and their lives are changed, too. Many times our worship of God is an evangelistic tool for winning the lost.
But the pretty music, the style of the music, even the technical aspects of the music is not what changes lives. It is God’s Word that changes lives.
We want the Worship Ministry at North Shelby Baptist Church to be known for the way we seek to change lives through God’s Word instead of a particular style of music. Although our Worship Ministry will still use a great variety of music, the emphasis on the music we use will be on the message of the Word and not the music.
The WHAT behind the worship of our church will surround the message of the words and the way these words are communicated. Many times the music, and sometimes the style of the music, will help communicate the Word. Our keyboards and our orchestra help us with the style of the music and will therefore, in this way, help communicate the words
The techniques the voices use to communicate the words is very important. The diction of the choir must be impeccable. And the way the choir sings as a group is crucial. Every word, every vowel, and every consonant must help communicate the meaning of the text. We cannot be instruments with “uncertain sounds.” We must communicate the wonderful message of our Savior clearly and distinctly.
Only then can we “Change Lives One Worship Experience at a Time.”
The WHAT behind the music at NSBC will always be the communication of the Word of God clearly to a world in need of a Savior.
