Open letter to folks who have, are or ever will serve on a church committee or team.
Recently, I heard an educator discuss the training of health care professionals. He said to be effective in aiding people to stay well or to heal they must:
- Genuinely care for their patients.
- Be well-trained.
- Continue to learn about the latest information in their specific medical specialty.
- Connect with other health care professionals and see themselves as part of a medical team.
- Understand the importance of their work.
You and I would not want a physician, nurse, medical technician or nurse’s assistant who did not have these characteristics to be our health care provider. Our physical health is important as it impacts how we feel and how long we live.
The church is the primary spiritual health care provider and we should not expect any less of those who serve in the church. Every person who choses to be impacted by the ministry of church has the right to expect that every pastor, staff member, Bible teacher, mission leader, preschool, children’s and student worker will be caring, well trained, continuing to learn, and work with other spiritual caregivers. But this also applies to committee and team members as well. All committee and team members are part of the spiritual health care team as their actions IMPACT SPIRITUAL HEALTH. Everything North Shelby Baptist Church does is about loving God and one another sharing Jesus with world. Committees and teams are important in the organization and polity of this church. When committed and well-prepared teams function effectively they help the church family to provide spiritual health care.
On Sunday evening, September 16 at 3:30 the church will provide committee and team training and preparation. All committee and team members need to make attending and participating in this meeting a priority. Every person elected to serve in this church is involved in spiritual health care, because so much is at stake. The church is not just about helping people feel better and live a few years longer, we are about helping people know Christ and have eternal life.
See you Sunday.
Your interim pastor,
